Texas School of the Arts is a public charter school with an inspiring story to tell. It begins in 1946 with the creation of Texas Boys Choir, a publicly supported professional nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the vocal talents of gifted young men, a nationally and internationally renowned choir for more than 65 years – and our founding organization.
A labor of love inspired by a legacy of excellence
Fueled by a long tradition of successfully mentoring young performers to achieve choral excellence, the organization expanded upon its mission in an effort to inspire young men and women from all walks of life to pursue their dreams.
The mission of Texas Center for Arts + Academics is to establish, support and grow our charter schools, the Texas Boys Choir, and our other artistic programs, which are designed to foster a lifelong passion for artistic and academic excellence.
In 2007, the organization opened Texas School of the Arts (TeSA), its second public charter school. Since its inception, TeSA has provided excellent artistic and academic education to young minds in North Texas despite never having its own building to call "home." TeSA operated out of temporary locations in local churches until the recent transition to the new campus in Edgecliff Village. The beautiful new school building was designed by Halbach-Dietz Architects and built by The Larry Frymire Company. The 40,000-square foot building will accommodate a growing student body and includes a cafeteria; a brand new library generously provided by Half Price Books; studios for art, dance, and music; and a black box theater that seats 125. In 2012, TeSA expanded to include grades 7 and 8 while changing its official name from Texas Elementary School of the Arts to Texas School of the Arts. Today more than 300 students call TeSA home.
The mission of Texas School of the Arts is to inspire a lifelong passion for learning and to empower students to achieve academic excellence through an arts-based education.
A legacy of excellence committed to inspiring bright futures
For more than 70 years, Texas Boys Choir has been instrumental in instilling a love of artistic expression and a desire to succeed in its young members. Today, Texas Center for Arts + Academics is a strong voice in the North Texas arts community and an active advocate for providing young people the means and opportunity to explore and excel in their lives.
